About Amsterdam Shops

(Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Amsterdam is a great place to shop, with bargains to be found in its many excellent shops and markets. Malls are few and discreet here and the centre is more typified by charming old fashioned pedestrianised streets.

Shopping: Where to Shop in Amsterdam

Popular shopping streets are Leidsestraat, Kalverstraat, Nieuwedijk, Damrak and Rokin, all of which have fashionable boutiques and big department stores. Antiques, books, art and second-hand goods can be found at small, speciality shops around the Jordaan area.

Many popular and excellent markets can be found throughout Amsterdam including the famous and colourful floating flower market (Bloemenmarkt), while the Waterloo Plein flea market is good for antiques and souvenirs. Niewmarket, which is easily found behind the Red Light district, also has a fresh produce market each morning.

Visitors to Amsterdam enjoy stocking up on the highly recommended Dutch dairy products and there are many traditional shops selling cheeses, butters, milk, yoghurt and more throughout the city. Then there are the quintessential Dutch souvenirs, such as clogs, which are also found everywhere.
